Camp Staff 2009 Dates: May 23 - Aug 1 Camp Brackenhurst gives individuals the opportunity to spend their summer volunteering on the mission field in many capacities. This team has the opportunity to share the Gospel of Jesus Christ with kids from several different countries and religious backgrounds through being camp counselors. They serve at camp for five one-week sessions. In the middle of the summer, the staff goes on a three-week mission trip to serve the people of East Africa though different projects. In the past, the staff has served in Maji Moto, Kenya, with the Maasai people and with Mission Link Ministries of Africa in Bungoma, Kenya, working with the local orphanage and encouraging the church. In Maji Moto, the summer staff worked with AfricaHope, a project established for AIDS orphans. The team visited local schools to teach classes, play games, and share about Jesus, abstinence, and the importance of education. The summer staff has also visited Buvuma Island and Hoima, both located in Uganda. On Buvuma Island, working alongside a missionary couple and local pastors, the team built 3 mud huts as homes for elderly ladies in the church and made over 300 bricks, which were used to construct a church/school. They also led youth rallies, did hut to hut evangelism, and assisted with a medical clinic. In Hoima, the staff worked alongside a local missionary couple, one day picking up trash in town in order to help build better relationships with city officials. The staff have also spent time in the slums of Nairobi and visited a Hindu temple, learning more about other world religions and their views. Brackenhurst Ministries hopes to give its summer mission staff a well rounded view of the people and cultures of East Africa, as well as give them the opportunity to experience different ways of ministering to its people.
