Mission Link Ministries

Mission Link Ministries of Kenya is led by Rev. Edwin Wanyama, a man who is truly committed to the Lord and serving His people! Edwin started his first church in that area and pastored Bukholi church for many years. During that time, he recognized the high infant death rate, and he founded a clinic to help care for the people. He later recognized the growing population of orphans due to the AIDS epidemic, and in 2000 he founded a program to house, feed, and educate many of these orphans. He now has over 30 churches under his care as well as 2 clinics, an orphanage housing 140 orphans, and a school educating over 300 students. Currently, the orphanage can not handle any more children, so Edwin has placed the burden to care for these orphans back into the hands of the church. At this point, 16 of his churches have started an early childhood development program for the orphans in their local area. Additionally, Edwin has begun various small businesses to educate his orphans, to serve and train individuals in the community, and to generate income for the ministry. These businesses are focusing on tailoring, clothing retail, computer skills and woodworking.

Brackenhurst Ministries' partnership with Mission Link Ministries of Kenya began in 2003. Our summer camp team began serving alongside of the team of pastors in the Bungoma area. Together, we would share & teach in the churches, speak about Christ in marketplaces and other public areas, and love on the people in that area of the world. The camp team would stay in the pastor's homes, and we were always blessed by their faith in the Lord and their desire to see their entire village come to know the Lord. During this time, our primary role in this ministry was supporting the church-planting work in Bungoma. In 2006, we realized the need to get involved in the ministry's humanitarian work as well. We realized that many of the orphans were going without food, so we have started a feeding program that serves the 140 orphans living at Rehema Children's Home. We have also started a program to plant gardens for the children and teach them the necessary skills to tend the gardens. We are also teaching them about growing chickens and harvesting the eggs. Lastly, we are trying to secure a deep-water well that will give the children clean water. We are still involved in the church-planting work as well, and we would like to see the pastors receive continued training so they can better care for their congregations.

Then, in December of 2006, the newest program began. Jane is the founder of the Cows for Christ program. Her husband died in 2005, leaving her with 4 young girls. Her girls were slowly starving and Jim & Mary Pace recognized Jane's need. Edwin suggested that we purchase a milk cow so that Jane could feed her girls. The pastors in this community were so encouraged that they began praying for a milk cow for their family as well. By providing a cow to care for the physical needs of the pastor and his family, the pastors are able to focus on meeting the spiritual needs of their community. This Cows for Christ program is currently providing a cow for the pastor of all 30 churches. A cow is able to provide for the needs of the pastors family as well as 8-9 other families in the community. The pastors have committed to giving the first 2 calves back to the ministry so that the widows and orphans in their communities may also have a cow. For only $500, the lives of 9 families in Bungoma will be changed!

Will you join us and help meet the spiritual and physical needs of these precious people?
