Student Outreach

After Camp Brackenhurst ended in 2001, the Brackenhurst team realized the need for young adults to invest in students’ lives, especially missionary and expatriate students, throughout the year. Camp is a great opportunity for kids during their school break, but they also need someone walking with them through the year as well. The team learned that one of the main reasons that missionaries leave the field is to care for their children. So, we also hope to minister to the missionaries by helping them to care for their children. These students are living in East Africa in order for their parents to minister and serve, but they do not have many people ministering to them. They do not have many opportunities for growth, such as youth groups, Bible studies, and other types of ministries designed especially for them. Also, as camp continued to grow and reach children of different religious backgrounds, the team realized the need for specific follow up with those campers who were making decisions for Christ.

Therefore, in 2005, a more formalized student outreach team developed to follow up on the relationships formed with students during camp as well as build new relationships with students in the Nairobi area. This team’s primary focus is leading students in their relationship with Christ through spending time and building relationships with mainly missionary and expatriate students.

The team desires to literally be ‘wherever the students are.’  Therefore, the team goes to appropriate school functions and athletic events, substitute teaches, hosts parties and dinners, attends and leads Bible studies, basically spends time with students through whatever venue possible. Focusing on relationships and closely following the Spirit, we want to serve the students by modeling a life changed by Christ, encouraging them, challenging them, and praying for them. We desire to see students walking with Christ throughout the year!
